Understanding the Dynamics of the Tropical African Climate

Tropical Africa is characterized by stark climatic contrasts, significant interannual and interdecadal climate variability, and intriguing but poorly understood paleoclimate records. It is a region where climate vulnerability is high, global climate models (GCM) offer widely varying future climate projections, and access to meteorological data is limited for international and local researchers. The Workshop on Climate Dynamics of Tropical Africa, held at Johns Hopkins University, was convened to evaluate the considerable progress that has been made in recent decades and to identify persistent challenges in the study of African climates.
