Using Remote Sensing in Analyzing the effects of LULCC on Climate Variability in Kiambu County English

 Contexte and Background: Changes in Land use is an exercise of great benefits to the economic growth of a country. It’s ranked among the top performing sectors in many nations. Despite the importance of the changes in land use, although following the stipulated laws and policies, they are done in a gruel   manner without minding the future of the region. Therefore, the main goal of this study was to use remote sensing in analyzing the effects of land use land cover change on climate variability in Kiambu County. The study deployed rainfall data from Climate Hazards Center InfraRed Precipitation with Station data (CHIRPS) for the years 2004 and 2024 and temperature data from World Climate Data (WorldClim) for the years 2004 and 2024. Using ArcMap and QGIS for analysis, the study results showed a sharp variation in climatic conditions in the region. In 2004 when the changes in LU were minimal, the highest rainfall amount was at 1530mm and the lowest was at 731.90mm which was stable for agricultural production. In 2004 the maximum temperatures were at 36.45oC and the lowest were at 0.967oC with was relative stable for variety of crops compared to 2024 when the highest maximum temperatures were at 29.50 oC and the lowest were at 10.00oC.  The study findings concludes that haphazard LULCCs may cause a lot of harm to the planet Earth which may even make it unfavorable for human settlement. The study is hoped to be deployed in urban and regional planning for decision making and is also hoped to contribute to the future literature review.  Goal and Objectives: The main objective of the study was to use Remote Sensing in Analyzing the effects of Land Use Land Cover Change on Climate Variability in Kiambu County. To achieve this objective the study deployed the following specific objectives; to determine the rainfall trends between 2004 and 2024 and to analysis temperature trends between 2004 and 2024. Methodology: The study deployed rainfall data from CHIRPS and temperature data from WorldClim in its urge to get the changes in climate for the years 2004 and 2024. Results: The study result showed an increase in rainfall from a maximum of 1530.96mm in 2004 to 3356.46mm in 2024. Also, the study results showed a decrease in maximum temperature from 36.45OC in 2004 to 29.5oC in 2024
