Waste Reclaimers: The Key to Circularity in Ghana

This conference paper examines plastic waste management in Ghana and the central role of informal waste reclaimers in plastics collection and recycling. It recommends better legal and economic integration of waste reclaimers into Ghana’s plastics value chain, together with stronger enforcement of extended producer responsibility regulations and reinvestment of environmental excise-tax revenues. The paper was prepared for the 2021 Inter-Policy School Summit, Transforming Inclusive Circular Economies.
