This study examines the extent to which Accounting Information Systems (AIS), specifically, system
quality and information quality, affect the financial performance of listed Deposit Money Banks
(DMBs) in Nigeria. Anchored on the DeLone and McLean IS Success Model, the study adopts a
quantitative approach using purposive sampling to select Zenith Bank, Guaranty Trust Holding
Company (GTCO), and United Bank for Africa (UBA) based on their consistent AIS
implementation and transparent financial disclosures. Secondary data were extracted from audited
financial statements between 2020 and 2023. Financial performance was measured using Return
on Assets (ROA), Return on Equity (ROE), Return on Capital Employed (ROCE), and Net Profit
Margin (NPM). Regression analysis revealed that system quality had a significant positive
influence on ROA (β = 0.311, p < 0.05) and ROE (β = 0.294, p < 0.05), while information quality
exhibited an even stronger effect on ROCE (β = 0.423, p < 0.01) and NPM (β = 0.398, p < 0.01).
These findings confirm that banks with superior AIS attributes tend to demonstrate stronger
financial health, likely due to improved internal control, timely reporting, and better decisionmaking support. The study concludes that investing in high-quality AIS infrastructure and
information integrity mechanisms directly enhances the profitability and performance of Nigerian
DMBs. These insights offer practical implications for financial technology integration in emerging
banking sectors.
