Data Supporting the Assessment of Conflict-Associated Structural and Functional Degradation of a Dryland Forest in Eastern Sudan

This dataset contains the remote sensing data used to assess structural and functional dimensions of forest degradation in a dryland forest in Eastern Sudan. The dataset includes MODIS NDVI time-series data used to characterize seasonal vegetation dynamics from 2019 to 2025 and Sentinel-2 spectral mixture analysis (SMA) fractions used to characterize vegetation and soil components for 2019, 2021, 2023, and 2025.MODIS data were obtained from the MODIS MOD13Q1 Version 6.1 NDVI product at a 16-day temporal resolution. NDVI values were extracted for representative forest condition and disturbance sites, including Healthy Forest, Cutting Area, Pastoralist Camping Area, and Farming Area.Sentinel-2 Level-2A surface reflectance imagery from the COPERNICUS/S2_SR_HARMONIZED collection was used for Linear Spectral Mixture Analysis (LSMA). The analysis quantified Photosynthetic Vegetation (PV), Non-Photosynthetic Vegetation (NPV), and Bare Soil (BS) fractions using bands B2, B3, B4, B8, B11, and B12. Annual median composites were generated using imagery acquired between 20 February and 20 March of each study year.The datasets support the assessment of conflict-associated forest degradation by providing complementary indicators of seasonal vegetation dynamics and structural/spectral forest condition. All data processing was conducted using Google Earth Engine (GEE).
