This conference paper presents an overview of sentiment analysis techniques for processing user-generated content on social media platforms. The study discusses the role of natural language processing (NLP) in classifying opinions, emotions and subjective information contained in online comments. Different sentiment analysis approaches, including lexicon-based and machine learning methods, are reviewed together with issues related to spam detection, fake reviews and opinion mining. The paper highlights practical applications of sentiment analysis for information retrieval, public opinion monitoring and decision support systems. This work was presented at the International Scientific Online Conference "Language and Intercultural Communication", held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on 26 April 2024, and published in the conference proceedings (pp. 114–118).
