The Mediterranean Sea is among the most polluted by marine litter, yet litter monitoring in North African countries is rare. To address this gap, beach-litter monitoring (n= 78 surveys) was initiated in Morocco, Tunisia, and Egypt, focusing on macro-litter (¿25 mm) and meso-litter (5-25 mm). Given the high pollution levels, the standard 100 m macro-litter approach was impractical and too time-intensive. Therefore, a faster multiple 10 m transect approach was developed, allowing normalization to 100 m length for cost-effective, long-term monitoring.
