This chapter examines the transformative potential of indigenous languages in fostering local economic development and innovation through civic education in Kenya. With over 40 indigenous languages coexisting alongside English and Kiswahili, the country's linguistic diversity is a powerful yet underutilised resource for sustainable development. Focusing on Kisii and Bungoma counties, this study highlights how linguistic inclusivity can bridge socio-economic gaps, enhance governance, and stimulate grassroots innovation. It proposes strategies for integrating indigenous languages into digital economies, agriculture, and education while drawing comparisons with global practices. The chapter contributes to global discussions by offering actionable frameworks for leveraging linguistic diversity to drive economic resilience and innovation.
