This presentation examines the long-term transition toward a fully electrified passenger transport system in Ethiopia by 2050. The study analyzes current passenger transport energy consumption, vehicle fleet composition, and associated greenhouse gas emissions, and evaluates electrification pathways across key transport modes, including two-wheelers, passenger cars, and buses. Scenario-based modeling is applied to assess the impacts of large-scale electric vehicle adoption on electricity demand, energy efficiency, and emissions reduction under a 2050 electrification target. The analysis considers Ethiopia’s power sector characteristics, including renewable-dominated electricity generation, and discusses infrastructure requirements such as charging systems and grid integration. The work aims to support strategic transport and energy planning by highlighting the potential role of transport electrification in reducing fossil fuel dependence and achieving national climate and sustainability objectives. The presentation is intended for academic, policy, and energy system modeling audiences.
