Overcast morning conversation in Akrukay afi171118m_1 Documentation of Chini language and culture

Grace, my apmɨŋgwamɨ (female cross cousin) had invited me up to her hamlet in Akrukay to make some recordings. On an overcast morning she hosted a casual conversation where she invited folks from a couple other hamlets upriver. Grace, her husband Samwell along with Vrenam and her husband Peter from Chirutu hamlet and Nancy (who also resides in Aurwaitmɨŋgɨ hamlet) do most of the chatting. Erman, who came all the way from Andɨ hamlet, arrives later on. One thing that makes this recording special, in addition to being one of few where only Akrukay dialect speakers are present, is the inclusion of Kenneth, one of the youngest speakers of the language. Much of the content of the conversation is about the documentation itself and people's understanding of the project. Recorded using a Canon Vixia HF G40 @ 35mbps and Røde NTG2 shotgun mic. A separate audio track was recorded for part of the event, using a Røde lapel mic connected to a Zoom H2n recorder, placed inside the bilum worn by Grace. (Unfortunately, the mic cord became disconnected and only a small part of the recording event has the separate audio track). Total audiovisual duration [2h:12m].
