Praise poetry is a well-known and culturally significant form of oral literature in Zimbabwe and other parts of Africa and beyond. ChiShona and isiNdebele, the two main African languages spoken in Zimbabwe, exhibit rich forms and performative practices of praise poetry that will be discussed in this contribution.
