Global supply chains are increasingly exposed to disruptions caused by conflict, climateinstability, pandemics, and political volatility. Yet, much of the current research onsustainable supply chain management (SSCM) assumes stability, institutional capacity, andpredictable market systems—conditions rarely found in conflict-affected or fragile states.South Sudan, as one of the world’s most fragile economies, presents an acute case wherehumanitarian operations, commercial logistics, and public supply systems coexist underpersistent insecurity and infrastructural collapse. This research aims to extend the currentfrontiers of SSCM theory by embedding sustainability and resilience frameworks withincomplex humanitarian and conflict contexts, complementing Professor Edward Sweeney’swork on sustainable logistics systems, supply chain design, and bridging the gap betweentheory and practice. The main aim of this study is to develop a conceptual and empirical framework for buildingsustainable and resilient supply chains in conflict-affected zones, focusing on South Sudan. Objectives:• Identify key sustainability and resilience drivers shaping supply chain performance inconflict-affected regions.• Examine how humanitarian and private sector supply networks interact under extremeconditions.• Develop an integrated framework aligning sustainability practices with resiliencecapabilities.• Propose policy and managerial recommendations for sustainable and efficient supplysystems in fragile contexts.
