This article documents a focused effort to address the lack of research data in the West African region by utilizing ground-based facilities at the Centre for Space Research (CESPAR), Anchor University, Lagos (Nigeria). It aims to strengthen institutional capabilities in atmospheric, solar-terrestrial, radio science, and space weather research. Additionally, it highlights CESPAR's current research capabilities in tackling the challenges presented by extreme space and terrestrial weather on both ground-based and space-borne technology. The article also provides insights into the future prospects of this growing hub of space and atmospheric science research.
