L'arabisation au Sud Soudan; vers quelles perspectives culturelles?

Miller Catherine, "Arabisation in Southern Sudan : Towards what cultural perspective ? This paper deals with the process of arabisation in Southern Sudan and its cultural consequences. Arabisation in the South of Sudan is going on on two levels: first, an official arabisation which tries to impose Arabic, excluding the English language ; second, the development of an Arabic lingua franca, used between the different tribes as a language of communication, this lingua franca beginning to be the young urban children's mother tongue. These two processes do not follow the same constraints and are not perceived in the same way by the South Sudan speakers. It seems that in Juba, the main town of South Sudan, a new culture is emerging.
