This work aims at describing transcategoriality in Gbaya, the Ubangian language spoken in Cameroon, that is to say the way in which the language uses the same term in several categories in synchrony, following the functional, typological and pragmatic approach. The study is based on the Yaayuwee dialect whose spontaneous corpus was recorded, transcribed and analyzed by Elan and Toobox computer softwares. The phenomenon of changing categories − parts of speech − without formal modification is widely used by the Gbaya language and participates in the normal functioning of its system which, in this case, does not take into account the criterion of evolution over time. These phenomena are essentially based on syntactic criteria relevant for an isolating language like Gbaya where the change of scale Ipso facto triggers the change of category. The different usage present, for a term, a semantic matrix. Thus, transcategoriality in Gbaya Yaayuwee is characterized by the following functioning organized in degrees. There are terms that give prepositions from localization names, from the use of the 2nd verb element of serial verb constructions (verbs of movement) and those that give categories other than prepositions. Other terms are used in three categories: we first note the passage of certain nouns to prepositional use, then to adverbial or subordinate use, and finally to the use of the 2nd element of verbal sequence as a dative preposition and as a goal subordinate. In addition, a non-verbal predicative is used as a localization predicative, coordinator proposition and topicalization marker. The term nɛ̀ is used in five categories, which are called polyfunctionality. It made it possible to study the prepositional, adverbial, coordinative, subordinative and relative use. These jobs experience a remarkable resulting polysemy. This study broadened the field of research on grammaticalization by going beyond the essentially diachronic perspective adopted by the majority of research. It shows that the notion of transcategoriality is global and is not limited to the passage from the lexical term to the grammatical term or to the most grammatical one. It also concerns essentially grammatical terms. Finally, this thesis provides a necessary basis for the analysis of other Ubangian languages.
